Students seeking admission to the Santa Barbara High School District Gifted
and Talented Program must follow the steps below to gain admission to the
testing session of their choice.
Parents must register their student(s) PRIOR to the testing session by
completing the registration form(s) (PDF file) and providing copies of the student’s last two years achievement test
scores and report cards to the GATE office. Upon receipt of this information,
the GATE office will issue an Admission Ticket to the testing site. Students
will be required to present their Admission Ticket along with picture
identification at the test site on the date of testing. If an Admission Ticket
is lost, the student will not be admitted to that test session and may be
required to re-register. In case of lost ticket, please contact the GATE office
regarding procedure between the hours of 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.
2007-2008 Test Schedule
Testing sessions are from 9:00 am to 11:15 am (arrive no later than 8:45 am
to check in). All tests are administered at Santa Barbara Junior High in the Globe
Theatre.

General Information:
- The test administered is the Cognitive Abilities Test, a general aptitude
test. It consists of three batteries: verbal, quantitative and nonverbal.
- Students are encouraged to bring a snack for the mid-morning break.
- The test results will be sent to parents and to the appropriate school.

If a student does not qualify for participation in the GATE program based on
the CogAT or achievement test scores, a portfolio and Renzulli Scale may be
submitted. See Test
