Education/Adopt-A-School Program
Program Suggestions and Possible Activities
(Adapt as appropriate - share your ideas with the
Career Education Office)
Business Partners might -
· Be a mentor/teacher for a specific curriculum (Junior Achievement).
· Provide specialized training to students and teachers.
· Host “Groundhog Job Shadow” visitations.
· Sponsor job mentoring for the youth employment and other programs.
· Take a principal/faculty member to lunch and give a tour of your
business.
· Provide a teacher Externship experience (teacher spends the day
at your job site).
· Be a guest speaker (Career Day - or for a classroom or assembly).
· Serve on an advisory committee (technology, curriculum, academy)
· Host an event at school or at your business site.
· Support an academy or a special career pathway program.
· Serve on school and program advisory committees (i.e., School
Site Councils, Advisory Committees, Regional Occupational Programs, Virtual
Enterprise Classrooms).
· Support Character Counts - John Ciambrone (Phone - 560-3635).
· Support the President’s Volunteer Service Award (http://www.presidentialserviceawards.org).
· Support a Presidential Freedom Scholarship for a Junior or Senior;
$500 available for a $500 match totaling $1000 (http://www.nationalservice.org/scholarships).
School Partners might -
· Designate a person as the school’s liaison
(principal or designee).
· Appoint a retired teacher or other volunteer to coordinate your
Adopt-A-School program.
· Invite your partner to the Adopt-A-School Breakfast.
· Publicize your partners’ names in school newsletters, websites.
· Invite partners to open houses, school events, and assemblies.
· Introduce partners to PTA and advisory groups.
· Thank your partners at a faculty meeting.
· Thank your partners in the yearbook.
· Invite your partners to the Annual Partners in Education Awards
Breakfast.
· Provide complimentary tickets to events.
· Write press releases about your partnerships.
· Give athletic passes to your partners.
· Invite partners to school activities and plays.
