School-to-Career The Career Education Programs department coordinates the Santa Barbara County School to Career Consortium. School-to-Career is an approach to education that links students, parents, schools, businesses, and labor to create a brighter future for all California youth. School-to-Career is a new model to make learning more relevant, and to prepare students for college and careers. Research shows that students taught within a School-to-Career framework do better academically, are committed to lifelong learning, and gain a better understanding of the skills needed to be successful. PowerPoint overview. The School-to-Career Approach
School-Based Learning opens up the world of career choices. Students are motivated by classroom teaching that connects rigorous academics to their interests and aspirations. Work-Based Learning introduces students to the world of work through
job shadowing, internships, paid or non-paid work experience, field trips,
apprenticeship, and mentoring activities. Connecting Activities integrate classroom and workplace learning by building bridges between school and careers.
Everyone wins in the School-to-Career approach. Students gain valuable skills and confidence. Parents participate with their children in school activities, college preparation, and career planning. Teacher and schools have access to resources and strategies that give additional context and meaning to their curriculum. Employers invest in their community and help to develop a highly skilled, motivated workforce.
