Santa Barbara County Priority Zones
for State Funding for Early Care and Education Programs
A major responsibility of the Santa Barbara County Child Care Planning Council is to identify priorities for state funding for early care and education in the county.
In establishing the priorities the Council considers, for each of the county zip code areas, numbers of children needing care, children living in poverty, families with income below 75% of State Median Income, free and reduced lunch recipients in the local schools, and the capacity of subsidized early care and education programs available.
The Priorities established for all state funded early care and education
programs, except Infant-Toddler, are as follows:
Priority 1: Zip Codes: 93434, 93103, 93109, 93458, 93454, 93101,
93455, 93436, 93254, 93429, 93013, 93117, 93440, 93105, 93111, 93460, 93427,
93437, 93110.
Priority 2: Zip Codes: 93463, 93067
Priority 3: Zip Codes: 93441, 93108.
Priorities for Infant-Toddler Programs: All zip codes in Santa
Barbara County shall be Priority 1.
These Priorities were approved by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors and the Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools. Every year the County Child Care Planning Council reviews the list to determine if any changes are necessary. These meetings are open to the public and provide opportunities for public input.
