Help us celebrate public education! And get a little Frosty...

We are thrilled that Frosty Troy, one of the most dynamic speakers in the nation and an ardent supporter of public education, has agreed to deliver the keynote address at our free Celebration of Public Education, starting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17.

We will have elementary and high school musical groups perform along with what will no doubt be a riveting and memorable speech by Frosty.

When he last visited our county he spoke to standing-room-only crowds that seemed to cheer his every word. He is a true friend of public education and we are very pleased to make him available to the community once again.

His “day job” is editor of the Oklahoma Observer, which he launched more than 33 years ago. It has won 17 national and 48 state and local awards. The paper’s motto is “To Comfort the Afflicted and Afflict the Comfortable.”

He is also a radio and TV commentator, critic, and humorist.

Troy has earned the Oklahoma Friend of Education Award, the National Friend of Education Award, and has been cited as Outstanding Investigative Report by the Washington Journalist Review. He received the Walter Cronkite Faith and Freedom Award, which he shared with ABC’s Peter Jennings, and more than four dozen other journalism awards.

Because people are likely to travel from near and far to hear Frosty speak, preregistration is recommended to ensure a seat at the event. We are also recommending carpooling because parking may be limited.

If you haven’t heard Frosty in person you have missed out on a real treat — common sense, passion, blunt talk from a man who is laugh-out-loud funny.

The event is free and light refreshments will be served. We hope many members of our community will come help us celebrate an institution that has helped make our country great: public education for all.

Further information and preregistration are available by calling the County Education Office at 964-4711, ext. 5290, or traceyb@sbceo.org.
