SBCEO Network Information for 2008-2009 school year
 

The Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) offer, Internet access to public and private schools.

It is an education network connected to the Internet and differs in some ways from a commercial Internet service provider (ISP).

• Web space is available to every school in Santa Barbara County for school-managed home page development and for posting on the Internet. However, web space is not available to individuals for personal home pages. Individual users can obtain web space from one of the local commercial ISP's.
• Filtered service is avalable to block inappropriate sites for children.

There are two types of services offered on the SBCEO Network:

• Internet Network Service
• E-mail Only Service

Fees for the E-mail service includes a one-time setup fee and an annual service fee. The annual service fee is based on the projected costs to run the service for the fiscal year. The fee is subject to change from year to year based on SBCEO's cost to provide the service divided by the total number of users.

Internet Network Service Features

The Internet network service to the SBCEO Network will give every computer attached to the school's LAN simultaneous connectivity to all services offered on the SBCEO Network.

The Internet network service includes the following:

• Router
• Installation and configuration of the router, monitoring of the router and circuit that connects to the SBCEO Network
• Internet Protocol (IP) class C address for school site
• Internet access from SBCEO to the Internet
• Filtered service available to block inappropriate sites for children
• Access to the HP 3000 (if needed)

The 2008-09 fees for the Internet network service are:

E-mail Only Service Features

If your site has Internet network service to the SBCEO Network and desires to have e-mail addresses maintained by IT Services, or you have another Internet service provider (ISP) and would like to have an e-mail address on the SBCEO Network, you can request the E-mail Only service.

This service includes the following:

• E-mail address on the SBCEO Network POP
• Free e-mail technical support
• E-mail virus protection
• Filtered service available to block unsolicited e-mail (spam)

E-mail Only service fees:

Annual cost $20

Onetime set-up fee: $10
