Kay honored for long-standing service

Dr. John Kay, esteemed professor of political science at Santa Barbara City College and, since 1978, a member of the Personnel Commission of the Santa Barbara County Education Office, was honored for his years of service to the commission in a surprise ceremony at the Dec. 1 meeting of the Santa Barbara County Board of Education.

Dr. Kay, who will be leaving the commission after 27 years of service, was saluted by the county board of education, County Superintendent of Schools Bill Cirone, fellow commissioners, county supervisor Salud Carbajal, and a representative of the classified employee staff, for always keeping the interests and rights of the classified employees in the forefront of every decision and consideration through nearly three decades.

Dr. Kay’s colleagues attested to the fact that he has “the ability to ask penetrating questions that reveal the truth as opposed to fiction.”

A proclamation affirmed that “Dr. Kay’s wise insights, dedicated service, and consistent support of classified employees’ rights on the Personnel Commission will be sorely missed.”

The county board and the board of supervisors  “honored, commended, and thanked Dr. John Kay for his years of dedicated service to our community and for his tireless efforts on behalf of those who serve students.”
