Frosty Troy to keynote Celebration of Public Education

Frosty Troy, editor, radio and TV commentator, critic, humorist, and one of the most dynamic public speakers in the country will provide the keynote address at the Celebration of Public Education hosted by County Superintendent Bill Cirone, starting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at the auditorium of the County Education Office.

The event is free and open to the public.

There will be musical performances by elementary and high school students, and a rousing keynote address by Troy.

Troy is recognized nationally for his upbeat presentations and his 30-plus-year track record as a blunt and passionate defender of public education.

The Oklahoma Observer, a journal of commentary published semi-monthly, which Frosty launched more than 33 years ago, has won 17 national and 48 state and local awards. The paper’s motto is “To Comfort the Afflicted and Afflict the Comfortable.”

Troy has earned the Oklahoma Friend of Education Award, the National Friend of Education Award, and has been cited as Outstanding Investigative Report by the Washington Journalist Review. He received the Walter Cronkite Faith and Freedom Award, which he shared with ABC’s Peter Jennings, and more than four dozen other journalism awards.

“We are extremely pleased and excited that Frosty has agreed to keynote our Celebration of Public Education,” said County Superintendent Bill Cirone. “When Frosty last visited our county he spoke to standing-room-only crowds that seemed to cheer his every word. He is a true friend of public education and a riveting speaker. We are pleased to make him available to the community once again.”

Because people are likely to travel from near and far to hear Frosty speak, preregistration is recommended to ensure a seat at the event. Further information and preregistration are available by calling the County Education Office at 964-4711, ext. 5290, or traceyb@sbceo.org.
