IMPACT II Adapt-an-Idea Grants Presented to Teachers

 

Seventeen IMPACT II Adapt-an-Idea Grants for creative curriculum ideas were awarded to individual teachers ($250) and teacher teams ($500) at the Adapter Dinner held on February 9 at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. The awards encompassed 10 school districts and 39 individuals, including 11 teams.

In addition, four teachers and teacher teams were presented with Girsh Teaching Tolerance Awards of $500. The awards were established to reward secondary teachers whose teaching about the Anne Frank Exhibit was outstanding and dedicated. Girsh award winners included:

o Leslie Brtek, an economics teacher at Santa Barbara High School,

o Shandra Herrera, an English teacher at Santa Maria High School,

o Melanie Jacobson, a humanities and world history teacher at San Marcos High School,

o and a team of Karen Shumey and Susan Salucci, teaching interdisciplinary studies in social studies and English at Vandenberg Middle School.

The Teachers Network&emdash;IMPACT II is a partnership among the Santa Barbara County Education Office, over 90 businesses and community leaders, and the 23 local school districts.

Business partners, principals, community leaders and other IMPACT II teachers honored those receiving grants.

A special guest at the dinner was Carolyn Teraoka Brady, 1999 Santa Barbara County Teacher of the Year.
