Annual Parent Conference Slated at Lompoc High School
The 25th annual Santa Barbara County Parent Conference is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, at Lompoc High School, 515 West College Avenue, Lompoc. Participants may choose any three workshops from among 16 offered in English and Spanish.
Pre-registration is required, and must be received before January 14.
The event is designed for adults only-child care is not provided.
A variety of expert speakers will deal with topics including confident parenting; introduction to the Internet; parents and the law; healthy food and physical activity choices; helping children deal with stress; a session for men only, exploring the gifts fathers offer their children; how new laws will affect children and schools; the values of a college education; art from scrap; helping children deal with the challenges of puberty, dating, and pregnancy and AIDS prevention; diversity and tolerance; preparing for college; and special education services. Included in the day's activities will be a luncheon and an information fair.
The annual conference is cosponsored by the Santa Barbara County Education Office, 15th District PTA, City of Lompoc, Community Action Commission (CAC), Head Start, Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA), Lompoc Healthy Start, Lompoc Unified School District, Migrant Education Region XVIII, Radio Station KSPE, Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, Santa Barbara School Districts, Santa Maria-Bonita School District, Santa Maria Joint Union High School District, Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), Tri-Counties Regional Center, and United Way of Lompoc.
