Annual parent conference slated at Lompoc High School |
| Thirty experts
in child development, education, and family relations will present a variety
of topics at the 27th annual Santa Barbara County Parent Conference, scheduled
from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Lompoc High School,
515 West College Avenue, Lompoc. Sessions will be held in both English
and Spanish. Pre-registration is required and the cost is $10 for three workshops, the family resource/information fair, a barbeque lunch, and all materials. Registration forms are available from The Center for Community Education at 569-3873. The event is designed for adults only child care is not provided. A variety of expert speakers will deal with topics including: self esteem; raising cooperative, confident kids; the arts; balancing work and family; parenting teens; confronting bullies and supporting the victims; raising grades; values education; helping with homework; getting into college; keeping your teens drug free; and other topics. The annual conference expects more than 400 participants and is the largest event of its type in the state. It is cosponsored by the Santa Barbara County Education Office, Lompoc Unified School District, Lompoc Adult School, Santa Maria-Bonita School District, Community Action Commission Head Start, Migrant Education Region XVIII, 15th District PTA, Santa Barbara Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), UCSB Early Academic Outreach, and the California Rural Legal Assistance.
