A+ Certification

A celebration will be held in honor of Truman Guerra and Josh Gonder, the first students at Los Robles High School to pass the A-Plus industry standard exam in computer repair and upgrade. The ceremony will be held at noon on Friday, April 7, at Los Prietos Boys Camp.

Guerra passed the rigorous exam on February 16, one day before he was released from the Boys Camp. Gonder passed the exam on March 22. These are the first students from the Vocational Technology class to pass the A+ core exam, which is an industry standard for computer repair and upgrade.

Students in the vocational technology class refurbish the majority of the machines used by Computers for Families, a program which provides computers, low-cost internet access and training for low-income families on the South Coast.

"One wonderful component of the Computers for Families process is the opportunity for students at the Boys Camp to obtain marketable computer repair skills that will enable them to succeed in the workforce," said County Superintendent of Schools Bill Cirone, whose office coordinates the program.

"It is truly a win-win situation for all involved. We are extremely proud of Truman, Josh, and all the students who are working hard to master this highly sought skill. We are also delighted that our office has helped Truman secure an internship with Venoco, Inc. so that he can put his skills to good use right away."

Truman plans to attend Santa Barbara City College following the internship. He can be reached for interviews through Computers for Families program director Matt Zuchowicz at 964-4711, ext. 5400.

Further information is available by contacting Steve Powell, director of the Juvenile Court and Community Schools program, at 964-4711, ext. 5213.
