Trades people help train and mentor El Puente students |
| Local construction
industry trades people have stepped up to the plate and are providing
mentoring and training programs for young people at El Puente/Santa Barbara
Community School in an effort to help them find an area to pursue and
lead productive lives after high school. This is a wonderful program and Ruth Harter deserves enormous credit for her efforts to put it together, said County Superintendent Bill Cirone. Some of these young people have faced very serious challenges and it can be life-altering to find a passion and a trade that will enable them to get gainful employment in an area they like. The program provides a way to explore opportunities and help build the local workforce at the same time, he added. I salute all of the local subcontractors and trades people who have volunteered to train and mentor through this program. Photo opportunities: Students will be learning the trades from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26 from Paul Moore, Perfection Painting, at the 600 block of Lou Dillon Street, where they will be helping to revitalize the Lewis Chapel pastors residence; from Don Sharpe Architect, 829 De La Vina; and from Bill McCarty at McCarty Electric and H&H Roofing, among others. NOTE: Because these students are on probation and governed by privacy laws, photos must be taken from behind them. No student faces may be shown. Further information is available by calling chairwoman and coordinator Ruth Harter at 5660677. |
