Local educators win Teachers Network/Crystal Apple Awards

Several local educators were among 24 teachers to garner The Teacher’s Network grants and among 10 to win Venoco, Inc. Crystal Apple Awards at the annual dinner of The Teachers Network at the Rancho Santa Barbara Marriott in Buellton on Tuesday, May 14, sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Education Office.

The following is a listing of The Teacher’s Network grant recipients, by school and district.

The Crystal Apples were awarded in five categories in North and South County.

North County:

Elementary Teacher: Jan Van Dorn, Olga Reed School, Los Alamos School District
Secondary teacher: Dave Long, Cabrillo High School, Lompoc Unified School District
Support Teacher: Vicki Storey, Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District
Administrator: Joseph Dana, Joe Nightingale School, Orcutt Union School District
Classified: Elaine Long, Cabrillo High School, Lompoc Unified School District

South County:

Elementary Teacher: Rosa Rodriguez, Canalino School, Carpinteria Unified School District
Secondary teacher: Haide Balster, Dos Pueblos High School, Santa Barbara High School District
Support Teacher: Jan Marholin, Carpinteria Unified School District
Administrator: Michael Gonzalez, La Cumbre Middle School, Santa Barbara High School District
Classified: Jeanne Palmer, McKinley School, Santa Barbara School District

The Teachers Network is designed to recognize and share outstanding teaching ideas that Santa Barbara County’s teachers have developed. It also provides opportunities for its teacher members to enhance teacher leadership skills for school-wide reform. It is part of a national program with more than 30,000 teacher members. Business partners provide the funding, through this cost-effective program for teacher grants, teacher attendance at recognition events, and the annual Curriculum Catalog. The Santa Barbara County Education Office provides funding for day-to-day operation of the program. This is the eighteenth year of the program in Santa Barbara County.
