Local educators win IMPACT II Awards
Several local educators were among 45 teachers to win a total of $18,000 in IMPACT II grants and 11 to win Venoco, Inc. Crystal Apple Awards at the annual dinner of IMPACT II&emdash;The Teachers Network at the Royal Scandinavian Inn in Solvang Tuesday, sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Education Office.
The Crystal Apples were awarded in five categories in North and South County.
North County:
Elementary Teacher: Sarah Carter, sixth grade, Tunnell School, Santa Maria-Bonita School District.
Secondary teacher: Scott Schaller, graphic arts, Cabrillo High School, Lompoc Unified School District
Support Teacher: Jesse Davis, special education, Cabrillo High School, Lompoc Unified School District
Administrator: Jan Yanagisako, special projects, Orcutt Union School District
Unique Educational Impact: Margot Olivarria, outreach consultant, Adam School, Santa Maria-Bonita School District
South County:
Elementary Teacher: Ron Liberatore, third grade, Franklin Primary School, Santa Barbara School District.
Secondary teacher: Audie Love, art, Dos Pueblos High School, Santa Barbara High School District
Support Teacher: Ann Marie Kopeikin, school nurse, Isla Vista School, Goleta Union School District
Administrator: Gerrie Fausett, principal, Santa Barbara Junior High School, Santa Barbara High School District
Unique Educational Impact: Jeni Fraas and Jill Pleick, Santa Barbara County Education Office, for their violence intervention/anger management/life skills program at Tri-Counties Boot Camp and Los Prietos Boys' Camp
Three corporate partners cosponsored the Crystal Apple Awards: Venoco, Inc.;KEYT TV and News Radio; and CBS12 TV.
