Welcome to Kindergarten! I am Ms. Estrello.
“The first unit of the year introduces kindergartners to the concept of school. We will discuss the activities that are part of each kindergartner’s school day, the people they are likely to meet, and the feelings they may have as first-time students.
You can help by encouraging your child to tell you about the stories we are reading and about his or her experiences in school. You might also go to the library with your child to find other books about starting school that you can read together.
The books listed below should be available at your public library:
When You Go to Kindergarten by James Howe. Friendly and informative, the pictures in this book show children just what to expect in school.
Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten by Joseph Slate. This rhyming story is about the first day of school for a class full of animal characters.
Beginning School by Irene Smalls. This reassuring story is from the point of view of an African-American girl who joins a multiracial kindergarten class.”

“En la primera unidad se les presenta a los estudiantes de kindergarten el concepto de escuela. Hablaremos de las actividades que son parte de cada día escolar dentro de kindergarten, las personas que van a conocer y, de cómo pueden sentirse por ser principiantes.
Usted puede pedir a su hijo(a) que le cuente sobre los cuentos que leemos y sobre sus propios experiencias en la escuela. También pueden ir juntos a la biblioteca a buscar otros libros sobre el comienzo de la escuela y los pueden leer juntos.
Los siguientes libros deben estar disponibles en la biblioteca pública:
When You Go Kindergarten por James Howe. Es agradable e informativo. Las imágenes en este libro muestran a las niños cómo será más o menos la escuela.
Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten por Joseph Slate. Este cuento con rimas trata del primer día de clases en una clase llena de personajes que son animales.
Beginning School por Irene Smalls. Este cuento alentador está narrado desde el punto de vista de una niña afroamericana que entra a una clase multirracial de kindergarten.
