Dear Parents,

Welcome to the third grade in room 33, Mrs. Wilson & Mrs. Lewis-Rodriguez's class. This year we will be team teaching, which means your child will have 2 teachers this year instead of one. Mrs. Wilson will be teaching on Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday, and Mrs. Lewis-Rodriguez on Thursday & Friday.

This year we will be learning about many exciting topics such as the Chumash Native Americans, our Solar System, multiplication, and much more.

We expect all third graders to be reading at home every night. This is the most important thing your child can do this year to improve his or her academic skills. As a parent, please help your child put reading as a priority. Please help your child to write the name of the book he or she is reading on the cover sheet of the homework every week. Third graders are expected to be reading chapter books, and there are plenty available to borrow in our classroom library and also the school library, if you do not have many at home.

Homework will be sent home on Monday and is to be returned on Friday of the same week, and will be signed by you each week. Tiger folders, which will contain important papers from the office, the district or the classroom, will be sent home on Thursdays. These are to be returned on Friday.

We will be taking several fun field trips this year that will follow up units in the classroom. More info will be sent home about these trips at a later date, as the times and dates are confirmed. We will send info and permission slips 1-2 weeks prior to each field trip.

Again, we look forward to a great year. We look forward to getting to know all of our families (back to school night is coming up!) and welcome volunteers in our classroom- let us know if you are available to help, we'd be delighted!

Estimados Padres:

Bienvenidos al tercer grado del salon 33, de la maestra Karolyn Wilson y la maestra Laura Lewis-Rodriguez. Este año se estara enseñando en equipo, lo que significa que su hijo(a) tendra dos maestras en vez de una. La maestra Wilson estara enseñando los Lunes, Martes y Miercoles, y la maestra Lewis-Rodriguez estara enseñando los Jueves y Viernes.

Este año estaremos aprendiendo acerca de muchos temas interesantes tales como los Indios Americanos de Chumash, nuestro sistema solar, multiplicacion, y muchos temas mas.

Nosotros esperamos que todos los alumnos del tercer grado esten leyendo en casa todas las noches. Esto es lo mas importante que su hijo(a) puede hacer para mejorar sus habilidades academicas. Como padre, por favor ayude a su hijo(a) a que considere la lectura como una prioridad. Por favor ayude a su hijo(a) a que escriba el nombre del libro que el o ella esta leyendo en la hoja de las tareas de cada semana. Se espera que los alumnos de tercer grado esten leyendo capitulos de libros, y hay muchos libros disponibles para prestarselos en la libreria del salon, y tambien en la libreria de la escuela, si es que no tiene muchos en su casa.

La tarea sera enviada a su casa los Lunes y tiene que ser regresada los Viernes de la misma semana, y sera firmada por ustedes cada semana. Las carpetas de tigre las cuales contienen papeles importantes de la oficina, el distrito o el salon, seran enviadas a su casa los Jueves. Tendran que ser regresadas el Viernes.

Este año tenemos planeados varios paseos de diversion que seran relacionados a los temas tratados en el salon. Les daremos mas informacion acerca de estos paseos mas adelante, tan pronto tengamos confirmados los tiempos y las fechas. Les mandaremos la informacion junto con las hojas de su permiso una o dos semanas antes de cada paseo.
De nuevo, esperamos un gran año. Esperamos en el futuro conocer a todas sus familias ( ya viene la noche de regreso a clases), y tambien dar la bienvenida a voluntarios en nuestro salon. Por favor dejenos saber si esta usted disponible para ayudarnos, nos encantaria su ayuda

Third Grade

GENERAL INFORMATION: Homework is handed out every Monday and is due the following Friday. It is a packet that covers a variety of subjects. It is ideal to do a little bit each night.

1. READING: A library book will go home each week. It should be read for at least 20 minutes each night. A book report, discussion, or related activity will follow in class;

2. HANDWRITING: 1-2 pages of cursive practice should be completed, after the letter(s) have been introduced in class.

3. SPELLING: 1-2 pages of spelling related activities may be completed after the words have been introduced on Monday. These words should be studied for at least 10 minutes each night to prepare for the spelling test each Friday.

4. GRAMMAR/ LANGUAGE ARTS:
2-4 pages of grammar and language arts related activities will be included, these skills will be introduced in class the prior week, so the students will be doing review work in their homework

5. MATH: 2-4 practice worksheets will also be included in each week's homework; these will also be a review of lessons taught in class.

6. OTHER: Occasionally, a social studies or science related activity may be included at the end of the homework. These will also correlate to work in the classroom.

Tercer Grado

INFORMACION GENERAL: La tarea se manda a la casa todos los Lunes Y se debe regresar el Viernes de la semanan siguiente. Es un paquete que cubre una variedad do temas. Es ideal el hacer un poco cada noche.

1. LECTURA: Un libro do la biblioteca see ira a la casa cada semana. Se debe leer por lo menos 20 minutos cada noche. Un reporte de libro o actividad relacionada se hara en clase.

2. CURSIVO: De 2 aa 4 paginas do practica do escritura en cursivo se debera completar solo despues do que las letras se les han ensenen en clase.

3. DELETREO: De 1 a 2 paginas con actividades relacionadas con deletreo se pueden completar despues de que las palabras se les ensenen los Lunes. Las palabras se deben de estudiar por menos 10 minutos cada noche.

4. LENGUAGE: De 2 a 4 actividades relacionadas con arte deberan ser completadas para el fin de semana (martess-Jueves) porque esos conocimientos o cuentos seran presentados al comienzo de la semana.

5. MATEMATICAS: De 2 a 4 paginas do practica se deberan hacer lo mas pronto possible para reinforzar lo que se aprendio en la leccion del dia.

6. OTRO: Ocasionalmente una actividad relacionada con ciencia or estudios socials podria ser incluida casi al final de la semana.
