Dear 6th grade Core students and your supporting adults, Welcome to all new and returning Adams students! I am looking forward to a very exciting year together! We will explore ancient civilizations and Language Arts by reading, writing, and analyzing many different kinds writing, from poetry to novels to informational articles. In addition to traditional school assignments, sometimes, I'll ask that you show me what you have learned by creating dioramas, plays, or other special projects; occasionally, you will give short presentations. By the second semester you will be expected to do some work over the weekends. Regarding homework: the most important assignment is to read 20 minutes every night. Adult signature on your weekly Reading Log is required (this week's Reading Log is attached). Even though most of you will read after you have done the rest of your homework, reading is actually the most important assignment. Therefore, to make sure you have time and energy to read, a responsible adult may sign off a partially finished Core worksheet by writing "My student has worked hard for 20 minutes" and sign their name. This adult sign-off is mandatory to excuse incomplete homework. Success in school starts by being prepared every day. Adults, please make sure that your student has a good night's sleep and a nutritious breakfast. Students should arrive at Adams by 8:25, at the latest. Supplies: Students must always have their 2" binder, Agenda (provided by Adams), 5-subject dividers, pencils, paper, pen, and a backpack. Also highly recommended: an insertable folder, a pocket dictionary, and small Post-It notes. If you have trouble being fully prepared or properly supplied, please contact the office or me. I look forward to meeting the families of all 6th grade Core students at Back-To-School Night. More details on this and other Adams events will come home soon. In the meantime, feel free to call the office or myself if you have any questions or concerns, 563-2515.
