Welcome!

We have a few part-time positions still available in Buellton and Santa Barbara for the 2010-2011 school year.

AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds in a domestic Peace Corps getting things done across America by meeting our educational, public safety, environmental, and human needs. The main focus of The Santa Barbara County Education Office AmeriCorps Reading Literacy Program is helping young people read and succeed in school. Members enjoy making a difference in the lives of K-12 students in participating elementary, junior high and community schools throughout Santa Barbara County. Members primarily serve as reading tutors and tutor low performing readers individually or in small groups. Additionally, members assist schools in generating and managing long-term volunteer reading tutors and short-term volunteers for episodic events.

In exchange for 11 months of service (August – June), AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance and an educational award to help pay back student loans or to pay for tuition at an educational institution. In addition, full time members are eligible for medical and dental insurance, and child care benefits.

We recognize that the AmeriCorps required commitment of time may not fit for everyone interested in volunteering. Because the need for Volunteer Tutors in our schools is so critical right now, the AmeriCorps Program also works with community volunteers who want to make a difference in young people’s lives by volunteering weekly as a tutor.

Please review our Program Details page for more detailed information about the AmeriCorps Program or if interested in applying to be a member. After reviewing our detailed website, contact us at AppleCorps@sbceo.org for additional questions and current openings.
