Accepting Applications Now for the NonprofitCorps!

AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds in a domestic Peace Corps getting things done across America by meeting our educational, public safety, environmental, and human needs. NonprofitCorps will support Nonprofit Capacity Building and Volunteer Generation and Management for primarily youth serving nonprofit organizations in Santa Barbara County. Nonprofit organizations will serve as host sites for NonprofitCorps members. These organizations have been negatively impacted by the economic crisis and their services assist local residents (and especially children and youth) who have been negatively affected by the economic crisis. Examples of perspective member placement sites are: Boys and Girls Club; Child Abuse Listening and Mediation (CALM); Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), YMCA of Santa Maria; Good Samaritan Homeless Shelter; Partners In Education; Community Action Commission; Storytellers Homeless Preschool; People Helping People; Life Chronicles; City at Peace and the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics.

NonprofitCorps members will engage in meaningful activities that build the capacity of the organization and that directly address and/or ameliorate the negative impacts of the economic downturn on the organization and/or its clients. These activities would include educational support services; human services; create new or expand existing services to clients; support data collection, data analysis and implementation of improvements to current and expanded services; and support existing program staff by performing activities which prevent program staff from completing their primary direct service responsibilities.

Additionally, NonprofitCorps members will engage in meaningful activities that will allow the nonprofit organization to create or significantly expand its ability to recruit and manage volunteers, and that these volunteers will serve in ways that will help address the negative impacts of the economic downturn.

Lastly, NonprofitCorps members will utilize the systems and procedures necessary to collect, track and present data in a format that is consistent with standardized performance measures designed to show the successful delivery of services provided by NonprofitCorps members and how those services either helped build the capacity of the nonprofit helped create or improve the organization's ability to recruit and manage volunteers.
