The BTSA Induction Program

The Participating Teacher Support and Assessment Induction (BTSA Induction) Program is designed to offer support for beginning teachers who have finished their credentialing program and have applied for, or currently hold, a Preliminary Multiple Subjects Credential or Preliminary Single Subjects Credential. Created by SB1422 in 1992, the BTSA Program was established based on research gathered from the California New Teacher Project. This research identified the need to provide Participating teachers with focused induction support that would be at a sufficient level of intensity to make a difference in the performance, retention, and satisfaction of Participating teachers.

Currently, the Santa Barbara County BTSA Induction Program is one of 150 BTSA Induction programs throughout the state. The Santa Barbara County BTSA Induction is comprised of 23 districts throughout Santa Barbara County, Deverux, and special programs of SBCEO. The program serves 160 participating teachers and 120 support providers, with the Santa Barbara County Education Office acting as the lead agency (LEA) for the program.

The Santa Barbara County BTSA Induction Program supports new teachers through providing a two-year induction program consists of a formative assessment process called CFASST, ongoing professional development workshops and seminars, comprehensive training for Support Providers and site administrators, quarterly newsletters, a comprehensive website, and resource materials in the form of books, videos, and curriculum guides. The California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs) are the foundation for all activities sponsored by the Santa Barbara County BTSA Induction Program.
