If you would like to start a child care program, information and help is readily available:
- First attend a Licensing Orientation. For schedules and more information visit the Community Care Licensing Division website.
- To open a family child care home setting, contact Children's Resource & Referral, “Becoming A Provider”.
- To open a child care center, contact the Office of Early Care and Education, First 5, (805) 560-1038
- Before planning a family child care home site or a child care center attend the appropriate Licensing Orientation. For schedules and more information, call (805) 562-0400 or visit the Community Care Licensing Division website.
Program Accreditation requires higher quality standards than licensing.
- For early care and education center accreditation, information is available at the National Association for the Education of Young Children, NAEYC accreditation.
- For family child care accreditation, information is available at the National Association for Family Child Care, NAFCC Accreditation.
Child care program staff credentials reflect the education and experience of the teachers/providers.
Accredited programs require specified staff training or education.
