Meeting Agenda Highlights:

Recap of Berkeley meeting: Nuts and bolts and reimbursement.

Community Contact Updates: Followup.

Review of Goals (Sheri): Sheri reviewed our goals (pdf). A discussion of questionaires followed this. We need to include information about kids that eat off campus. Possibly the ScanTron could be used to collate the

information. We remind ourselves that it is not that long until the March 11 meeting. Much of our discussion involved changes to the cafeteria....

Cafeteria Update (Lynn): Lynn shared alternatives that are being explored for the cafeteria. Big changes....smaller chip size, better choices. Lynn has a plan for an attractive food service area to highlight nutritious foods. We are working hard to eliminate offensive foods. Lynn would like to investigate parent volunteers for certain nutritional activities. Lynn pointed out that parents can pre-purchase food for students and that she can provide parents information with information. This was a powerful option, and we agreed that we might be able to use this.

Survey Issues: We discussed whether we should provide surveys in Spanish.

Policy Issues: Sheri felt that the Berkeley policy was the most thorough. The group worked through the goals and strategies of the Berkeley policy. A revision of this list will be linked to this summary. We worked through the strategies in the policy as well. We discussed the degree to which school garden produce could be used regularly in conjunction with the cafeteria.

March 11 Meeting Plans: We will (1) Review survey data we have acquired, (2) Go over our goals and activities, (3) Review our proposed District Nutrition Policy, and (4) Break out into small groups for discussion: Fitness Group, Gardening/Agriculture, Fiscal group, and a Food group. We discussed how we will benefit from ideas and input from this meeting.
