Dress Code (Board Policy 5132)
The general atmosphere of a school must be conducive to learning. Clothing shall be neat, clean and shall not detract from or disrupt the educational process of the school. If a student’s general attire or appearance represents a danger to his/her health or welfare or attracts undue attention, the student will be asked to make the necessary changes. In the interest of health, safety, cleanliness, decency, and decorum, the following regulations have been adopted by the Board of Education.
The following are not allowed on any clothing, which includes, but is not limited to dresses/skirts, hats, shirts/blouses, pants/trousers/shorts/slacks, shoes/boots, jackets/coats/sweaters, bandannas/scarves, and gloves.
(a) Advertisement or representations of controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs.
(b) Pictures, words, or messages pertaining to sex, profanity or lewdness.
(c) Pictures, words, or messages pertaining to gang membership.
(e) Pictures, words, or messages pertaining to racism or cultural prejudice.
(f) Accessories dealing with or portraying drug use or paraphernalia are not acceptable.
Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times, except for specific classroom activities. Shorts must have at least a 3” visible inseam.
SHIRTS:
a. All shirts must reach the waist of the wearer when both arms are relaxed at sides (normal posture).
b. No halter tops, spaghetti straps, strapless tops, or sheer tops that expose skin in the torso area. Necklines shall be high enough to avoid cleavage.
c. No torn shirts, or shirts that have holes that show skin or underwear.
d. Boys need to wear shirts with sleeves.

Girls need to wear blouses with shoulder straps at least 2” wide.
PANTS/TROUSERS/SLACKS, ETC.
a. Shall not be so tight as to constrict movement or call attention to the wearer’s anatomy.
b. Shall not be shredded or cut where there are holes that show skin or underwear.
c. Bike Shorts or Speedoes: due to the skintight nature of the material used to manufacture these items; they may be worn only when the shirt/blouse/top worn covers the body below the crotch level.
HATS:
Shall not be worn inside the classroom or cafeteria. (Outside PE or Ag farm activities are not inside the classroom).
Shall be clean and not contain holes.
Sunglasses shall not be worn in the classroom or cafeteria, except with permission of the site administrator or teacher.
Undergarments must not be visible.
Wallet chains must be attached to a belt loop and wallet.
Consequence
Prior to sending students to the office/administration for dress code violations, teachers will talk to students about their dress and seek voluntary compliance with the policy.
Consequences include:

Student will be asked to call home and have appropriate attire
brought to school.
· Student will be required to put on an oversized shirt provided by the school site.
· Student will be asked to wear PE clothes.
· School may request a parent conference.
· Student may be asked to perform community service.
The Administration has the right to suspend any student displaying gang-related clothing and/or accessories.
