Norm Clevenger, Principal

To the San Marcos Community,

I have been in high school education for the past 35 years. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley in 1971 and earning my teaching credential in 1972, I began as a high school teacher and coach in Hayward, CA. Over the next 18 years I taught in both conventional and alternative high school settings. I coached football, wrestling and baseball. I taught English, social science, math, science and technology classes at schools in the Hayward and Monterey school districts. I also had some job assignments in vocational and academic counseling.

I received my masters degree and administrative credential from the United States International University 1n 1991. I moved into administration in 1992 as the assistant principal of Monterey High School. I was the AP for six years and the principal for one year. I moved from Monterey to the Santa Ynez Valley in 1999 and served as the principal of Santa Ynez Valley Union High School until now moving to San Marcos High School.

I enjoy the energy of teenagers. I also relish the opportunity to work with them during their high school years when they will develop the character, work ethic and value system that will guide them into adulthood.

Besides being around young men and women, the best part of my job is working with faculty, staff and parents who share my passion for providing a quality education. The faculty and staff at San Marcos High are held in high esteem in our educational community for their professionalism, dedication and positive approach to students. The parents and community are also recognized for their support of San Marcos High and a willingness to take part in students’ education and activities.

I have been made to feel very welcomed and supported by the district personnel as well as those at San Marcos High School. I delight in this new opportunity and look forward to getting to know and work along side everyone at the high school and in the community.

Sincerely,

Norm Clevenger
