Tripping Through the Galaxy

Dear Fellow Teachers,

To enhance the learning process and to create synergy towards science, students will explore the solar system. Lesson one enables the teacher to see what the students know about the solar system by discussing the galaxy. Lesson two explores objects in space and their differences. Lesson three involves researching a planet and writing an outline. Lesson four involves the computer and students using Microsoft Word to type their report. Lesson five taps into students creativity when they draw colored pictures each planet on paper, then draw the planets on the computer using Kid Pix. . Lesson six teaches the students how to create a Power Point presentation on their planet and then present their project to the class. These Power Point projects can be viewed by parents at Open House.

This unit allows students the opportunity to become experts on planets. Going beyond the tradition method of study allows students to expand their knowledge through technology. Evaluation and student comprehension is assessed during the process of the unit and during presentations to the class. The unit provides an interesting and exciting learning environment for the students and teacher.

Enjoy,

Jenee Severance
