Auditorium

The 7th annual countywide Battle of the Books will be held in the Santa Barbara County Education Office auditorium on Monday, April 21, 2008.

More than just another competition, Battle of the Books is a great reading incentive program. Each participating student must read 30 books from a pre-selected list. Two teams composed of six students apiece compete against each other by answering 20 comprehension questions based on those books. Forty county public schools, ranging from Santa Maria to Carpinteria, will each send five students, grades 4-6.

The teams are formed once students arrive so that no single school competes against another. Students must agree upon and offer their answers as a group, emphasizing teamwork rather than individual ability.

This list is identical to the America’s Battle of the Books list except for two substitutions: We are removing The Hobbit and The Velveteen Rabbit and adding Key Lardo by Bruce Hale (guest author) and Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke for 2008.
See titles below.
