Foreign Languages Ms. Anderson- Spanish Mrs. White- French Mr. O'Donnell- Latin The foreign Language Department includes Spanish, French, and Latin. The following classes are being taught: French 1AB or Spanish 1AB*: These courses are designed for students preparing for college or university study. There is a strong emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as learning about the culture of the country. French 2AB and Spanish 2AB: These courses are a continuation of Level 1AB. *Note: 1AB and 2AB are the equivalent of Level 1-2 which are generally offered in high school. Latin 1AB: Utilizing the Cambridge Latin Course, Units I and II, the student learns four cases of the first three declensions of nouns and adjectives, and four active tenses of the verb in four conjugations. The present infinitive and imperative, as well as the present participle active, are learned. Cultural and historical study are included. Latin 2AB: Cambridge Latin Course, Unit III, is used to teach the ablative case and its uses, the present passive participle and the ablative absolute, the gerundive with sum (passive periphrastic), the future and future perfect tenses, and five uses of the dependent subjunctive. The course continues to present cultural and historical instruction. |
