Course Description: The seventh grade social studies class as aligned with the California History/Social Studies Framework, includes the study of World history and geography with an examination of the social cultural, and technological changes during the period of 500Ad-1789AD. The units included in this course are focused on the great civilizations developing concurrently at that time. Syllabus for World History
SEPTEMBER: Review school rules in Handbook Geography Basics Unit 1, Links to the Ancient World: introduces concept of world view, reviews fall of ancient Rome & rise of Byzantium. OCTOBER: Finish Unit 1 NOVEMBER: Unit 3, Sub-Saharan Africa: the empires of Ghana, Mali, & Songhai, village life, Bantu migration, coastal trading states, rise of Zimbabwe & Congo. DECEMBER: Unit 4, Asian Civilizations, Chapter 7 & 8: includes the Mongols, Ottoman & Mughal Empire and China. JANUARY: Unit 4, Chapter 9:
continues with ancient Japan FEBRUARY: Unit 5, Chapter 11:
encompass the power of the church including its split between
east & west, crusades MARCH: Unit 6, Chapters 13-14:
