| Intro: Egypt Studies ,Art & Interaction | ||||||||
| This is introduced after other learning has prepared them.... they know some things about Egypt- time, place, culture..... and especially the "big ideas" that we are considering as we study. For us, these ideas included: The river was the "giver of life" and followed the common pattern of agricultural civilization being centered around rivers. The ruler-Pharoah- was an absolute ruler, and the social structure was pyramidal. The religious ideas included many deities, and the idea of life after death A system of pictoral writing was important both in everyday life and in the philosophy of the civilization. The Egyptians became very powerful in relation to other peoples. Now the students are going to use their textbooks, other books, and the internet to find items that strongly represent parts of the Egyptian civilization. These "artifacts" will be identified, and later arranged on a hand colored scroll to share with "future generations". The items they must find, use, and explain are: 1. Map 2. Figure (Human, Deity, or Animal) 3. Structure 4. Big Idea 5. Writing form- translated to English 6. Contrast with another civilization 7. Question you really what to learn more about (sample of my sheet) First, the textbook- We had previously done some rudimentary outlining of the text- section heading with 3 key facts. Now the students look at the text in a different way.... seeking graphics and photos that match the items they need. They make a note page with the page number, item, and very brief description. End of lesson. |
