Instructional Objectives- Students will learn and use skills of navigating teacher chosen websites, including using keyword searches within the sites, and online note-taking skills including copy-paste of text, images, and urls to a word processing or drawing page.
Time Required- 50 min.
Advance Preparation and Prerequisite knowledgeskills- Students should have some experience using pop-up menus, selecting text with cursor insertion, and with identifying the parts of a webpage- address, image, and text.Teacher should examine and pre-print list of url's for students to follow (except for advanced students if boolean searches are chosen instead)
Materials- Computers with internet connection, printer, and wordprocessing or "works" software for notes.(if not enough computers for whole class, this can be done as a rotation with lesson #1 using texts.)
Lesson 2- Organizing Online Notes (1-2 50 minute periods, with some finish up as needed)
Ideally you can model this on a TV or with a projector. It can be done just going through the basic steps below, and assisting students as needed.

1. Open note page, title, save, and leave it open. (they'll work back and forth from it to browser)
2. Open browser and go to selected website. (click here for list I gave them... many more exist)
3. As you browse the page and make navigational choices, remember what kinds of items you need to be able later draw and explain.
4. Save text by sliding cursor over words you want, use Copy command, then click on your notes page and Paste. (Be SURE to also copy the web address where you found it)
5. For graphics click and hold (Mac) or right button click (Windows) to get choice of Copy or Save image as. Choose Copy, then paste in notes page..... again with URL.
(note, Saving Image is very useful in other applications, but this is just to quick print)
6. Open additional pages as needed, until sufficient items are captured to give choices later in all areas.
7. After teacher check and okay, print note sheets for use in class.

This can be whole class, or with some on computers, others continuing with text or using library resources.... I did it that way because we have 15 lab computers, and later some will use the several in class as needed (sample page of notes)
