Advance Preparation and Prerequisite knowledgeskills- Students need to select their artifacts and do a small draft of the arrangement on the page, then work in pencil first.
Materials- Students will have between 1-5 pages of online notes to refer to for their drawings, and for selection of important text and url's. Teacher will have workspaces, pencils, and colors as chosen for the activity..
Lesson 3- Art on Paper (1-3 50 minute periods as needed)
The time needed depends very much on your students and your desire to be a part of their work. I chose to have them compose their scrolls in teams of 3-4, discussing the various artifacts they each found in their notes, and deciding together which would be used, and who would do the art work.
I expected every student to either draw or write the description/explanation of at least 1 artifact.(gives students with different interests/abilities a chance, but all participate)

>Students used pencils, and then crayons and markers. As a more fully developed art lesson, other media like paints and watercolor could certainly be chosen.

At this point, students are all over the place, and it is time to help some catch up online with their notes, or in using books, and especially in facilitating their group work so that they are understanding what the artifacts represent as a facet of the civilization. A great time to work closely with a student or two.
