Lesson 4- Evaluating Online Activities
Instructional Objectives- Students will choose one or more of the online Egypt interactives from the British Museum, and will evaluate the activity on a simple worksheet.
Time Required- 1 period of 50 min (may be spread out as "study center" activity if desired.. also, because of the wealth of information, teacher may choose to have students use "Story" and "Explore" in addition to the "Challenge" activity done in this lesson) ).
Advance Preparation and Prerequisite knowledgeskills- Teacher should preview the website, and the choice of interactives, and decide whether to allow or suggest students check out Explore and Story, or just go directly to Challenges. Also, emphasis on reading the simple instructions is important. Each student needs print copy of evaluation form (this form can be extended based on student skills and your interest) .
Materials- Computers with internet access, and Shockwave Plugin, and copies of evaluation sheets.

Lesson 4- Evaluating Online Activities (1-2 periods in lab)
This is really best as a lab based activity, although it can be spread out over time on a few computers very easily. Basically, students choose an online activity from the British Museum site, engage in the Challenge part, and then fill in short answers on the evaluation sheet. In practice, essentially all students used the time given to use the other parts of the focus area to check out more interesting information, and many would not stop until they had come back and done several Challenges.

Students handwrote responses to the prompts on their sheet while working, then switched to template on the computer to fill in final copy. This step is only neccessary if extending the lesson to more in-depth thinking and writing is done, or it is part of an electronic student portfolio.

I found these to be excellent uses of online learning, and in the future will increase the amount of time and range of activities to better use them.
