THE REPORT CARD
The 1988 School Report Card creates an accountability of our school to the many families, friends, and institutions that support us in our educational efforts. It is an opportunity for us to publicly reveal our successes, our improvements, as well as recognized areas of needed improvement.
SCHOOL PROFILE Kermit McKenzie Jr. High School is located in the city of Guadalupe on historic State Highway 1. The school serves the families of Guadalupe as well as families from the neighboring farms and ranches. The local economy is based on agriculture. Many students come from migrant families. Enrollment in October 1997 was 342 in grades sixth, seventh and eighth. The student population is 93.0% Hispanic, 3.2% Filipino, 3.2% White, .30% Black and .30% Asian. The school staff consists of fifteen full-time classroom teachers, two full-time teaching assistants, one full-time district-wide music teacher, a library-media technician, a computer lab technician, a part-time nurse, a full-time district-wide health office assistant, four part-time campus safety supervisors, three cafeteria staff personnel, a Principal, and Assistant Principal shared with the elementary a full-time school office manager. McKenzie's School Site Council (SSC) is a team of parents, staff, administration and faculty that collaborate towards school-wide improvement. A Student Study Team (SST) meets monthly utilizing a team approach to assist with the identification and instructional program of individual students needs.

. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT Students in grades 6th through 8th have been tested each Spring on the CTBS Test. A new test, the Terra Nova, was given in 1997. Chart #1 shows the 1995 through 1997 results for reading and math. For the past three years the district has tested students in either English or Spanish depending on language instruction. The standardized test used (CTBS/SABE) did not provide results for writing. Beginning in the 1997/98 school year, all students will be given a writing assessment to determine achievement in this area.
