ATTENDANCE POLICY

Each day that students miss class, they fall two days behind. Upon returning from an absence, they need to make up missed learning and catch up with new learning at the same time. Missing valuable class time can be avoided by:

  • Planning family vacations during the summer or school holidays.
  • Scheduling doctor/dental appointments after school hours.
  • Staying home only when contagious or too sick to be comfortable at school.
  • Attending school before and/or after necessary medical appointments.

Remember - Every Day of School Counts!

The school is legally required to keep a record of each student’s attendance. Students who have been absent for any part of the day must report directly to the office when they return for an admit slip. Legal excuses for an absence or tardy from school are: illness, quarantine, medical and dental appointments, attendance at the funeral of an immediate family member, or exclusion based on health code regulations. Absences for any other reason will be considered unexcused.

Schools receive no funding for either excused or unexcused absences. Unexcused absences may be referred to the Truancy Intervention Program and forwarded to the District Attorney’s office.
