G.A.T.E Page

Gifted And Talented Education

Every year at McKinley there are four sessions of G.A.T.E. Each session is six weeks long, and goes for two hours a day, twice a week. The teachers who sign up to teach G.A.T.E. choose the content of the class. Here's what this year's teachers had to say about teaching G.A.T.E.:

Mr. Ezell: " When I consider why I teach G.A.T.E after school every year, I remember why. The students are so willing to work, to work on problems that aren't easy to solve. I notice it's easy to teach, even when I'm tired, when the students are eager to learn."

Ms.Gibbs: "Teaching G.A.T.E. gives me the opportunity to teach something else besides my grade level. I like working with computers and am excited about building the McKinley web page."

Mrs.Duprey: "Working with kids on special art and writing projects is fun. Working with Mrs.Bierer is fun too."

Mrs.Bierer:" I enjoy teaching GATE classes after school because I involve children in writing and art. We do projects that come from personal experiences such as family stories, journal writing, interviewing and much more."
