Field Trips:

We have gone on several field trips this year, and have a few more to go on before the year is done. We have gone to Ledbetter Beach twice, once to look at tidepools, and once to collect objects and sand to use for making our fossils. We went to the Arlington Theater to see some dancers from South Africa. We also went to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.

In a few weeks we will take a trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo, another trip to the beach to have some fun, and another trip to the Arlington Theater.

We Have Studied...

The second grade has learned all kinds of fascinating things this year. In Language Arts, we have studied kindness, fossils, courage, and are now learning about the first people to live in our country.

In math we have learned how to borrow in subtraction and regroup in addition. We also learned about fractions, measurement, geometrical shapes, and how to count by 2's, 5's and 10's. We are all ready for third grade!

We had an exciting year in science. In the beginning of the year we learned about physical science. WE studied pushes and pulls, gravity, and simple machines. Next we studied rocks and soil, and learned all about what the earth is made up of. That included learning all we could about fossils. Now we are investigating the life cycle. We have just studied the life cycle of a seed, and now we are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. A couple of our classes watched caterpillars turn into butterflies. At the end if the year we let our butterflies go, and watched them fly away!!

The second grade team dresses up for Halloween!
