Library News

The MUS library is open, air-conditioned, and ready for readers!

Some of the library's special features include:

  • Over 3600 picture books
  • Over 4100 children’s novels
  • Over 4,000 Fiction titles
  • Over 6700 nonfiction titles
  • Over 1,100 Biographies
  • Over 250 audio books (CDs and tapes)
  • Over 200 titles in our Parent Section
  • Magazines including: Ask, Dig, Kids Discover, Muse, National Geographic Kids, and Sports Illustrated for Kids

Our students are eager to select books that support classroom curriculum, and materials that appeal to their various individual interests.  Throughout the year your child will be introduced to the various sections of the library, and will learn to locate materials within the library through use of our automated catalog.  Students may check out up to four books at one time, with a two-week check out period.  Materials may be renewed as necessary for an additional two weeks.  We do not charge late fines, but all lost or damaged materials must be paid for in full in a timely fashion.

In addition to visiting the library for 30 minutes each week with their classmates, students are encouraged to visit the library before school, 8:00-8:25, and at each recess.  Parents may come in to request a library card before or after school, then check out books from our student collection and the Parent Shelf.  Our parent section includes books relating to issues such as illness, death, divorce, special needs, bullying, trouble with homework, GATE programs, and discipline.

BIRTHDAY BOOKS: Honor your child with a book presented to the library in celebration of his/her birthday. A special bookplate will be placed inside the book honoring this special person. A donation of $10.00 will enable your child to choose a birthday book from our new book shelf, which in turn will be placed on the library shelves.
