Notre Dame School
Educate u Prepare u Inspire
Outstanding Catholic Education in the Heart of Downtown Santa Barbara
Our students grow into successful, caring adults who serve the Santa
Barbara community. The key to our rich history of success is that we create a
positive learning environment in which students strive for academic excellence and develop
a strong personal faith and identity. The children bring unique personalities,
learning styles, and backgrounds to Notre Dame School. It is precisely this
diversity that helps them become compassionate people. And it is our focus on their
gifts that inspire them to achieve their personal best.
ACADEMICS
Notre Dame offers a well-rounded curriculum focusing on Language Arts, Mathematics,
Science, and Social Studies. Our curriculum is aligned with the California Standards
in each area. In addition to the core subjects, Notre Dame also offers music and art
instruction for all grade levels and Spanish in the Seventh and Eighth grades. Notre
Dame's program is also enhanced by visiting art instructors from the Santa Barbara Art
Museum and participation in programs offered by the Santa Barbara Symphony.
RELIGION
Our Catholic faith is interwoven into every part of Notre Dame. Religion is taught
daily and integrated in all school activities. Students have the opportunity to live
their Catholic faith by preparing and participating in school liturgies, serving the
community, and practicing peace and social justice when interacting with their peers.
COMMUNITY
Notre Dame has a strong sense of community. It begins by honoring the partnership
between teachers and parents in their effort to support and educate the students.
Community is also emphasized in the "Notre Dame Families" program.
One child from each grade is placed in a "family" that gathers monthly
for cross-aged activities. Because of Notre Dame's downtown location, students have
the opportunity to regularly visit major attractions such as the Santa Barbara Art Museum,
the public library, the courthouse, the Natural History Museum, and the Old Mission.
Students are also encouraged to serve the Santa Barbara community in a variety of
ways such as collecting food for needy families.
EXTRACURRICULAR
Notre Dame students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular
activities. Our sports teams compete in soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in writing and art contests as
well as academic competitions.
FACILITIES
Notre Dame School's facilities include a fully equipped science lab, a beautifully
refurbished library, and a multi-media/computer center with additional teaching staff to
enhance instruction. In addition, all classrooms are equipped with networked
computers and internet access.
EXTENDED DAY CARE
Notre Dame offers an after school care program that includes homework supervision,
recreation activities, and arts and crafts. Our extended day care program is offered
at an affordable rate.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Parent participation is both encouraged and necessary to the quality of our school.
Examples of ways parents participate are: assisting teachers in their
classrooms, serving on the PTG, helping maintain the campus inside and out, serving on an
event committee, and chaperoning a field trip. We truly appreciate the support of
our parents.
PRESCHOOL
Notre Dame Preschool is a development program for children 2 ½ to 5 years old that
actively engages them with their environment. We offer a curriculum that strives to
compliment your child's natural curiosity and fosters growth and development in all
curricular areas. Our program is geared toward providing a positive initial school
experience and preparing children for Kindergarten. We offer age appropriate
learning experiences in reading, math, science, social studies, and art as well as an
ongoing religion program. The curriculum is enriched with educational field trips,
special visitors, cooking activities, and special events for the families or our students.
We are fully licensed and dedicated to providing a quality Catholic preschool
program to meet the needs of our community.
