Russell Granger

Hands-on training to include the operation, maintenance and repair of the automobile. Students may work on their own cars after initial training is completed.

BUSINESS OCCUPATIONS

COMPUTER ACCOUNTING


John Delaney

This class will prepare students for entry-level employment in the accounting and bookkeeping fields. The skills taught are an excellent prerequisites for students planning a college major in business and for those interested in an accounting/bookkeeping career.

Students, working independently on the computer, will learn computerized general ledger, financial reports, payroll, bank reconciliation, income statements, accounts payable and receivable reports and spreadsheet generation using MS Excel.

Students will learn and use the QuickBooks Pro computer accounting software. A job seeking/general workplace skills unit is also covered in this course.

This is a one to four-term course.

It meets the math graduation credit requirement and is articulated for SBCC credit.

COMPUTER BUSINESS APPLICATIONS

This class is designed to teach computer business application skills and concepts. Students, working independently on the computer, will become familiar with each of the computer programs in the Microsoft Office 2000 Suite.

Upon completion of the course students will be able to use the powerful features of Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and Publisher.

Students will be prepared for entry level employment in businesses requiring computer application skills and/or will be prepared to continue their education in the business field at a college or trade-technical school.

Students should also be prepared to take and pass the Microsoft MOUS certification tests upon completion of the course. A job seeking/general workplace skills unit is also covered in this course.

This is a one to four-term course.

ECONOMICS / VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE

A simulated business class designed to give students the experience of working in a real business environment. Students will be engaged in a variety of specific activities including market research, advertising, buying and selling products and services, accounting, paying wages and taxes and negotiating loans with a central bank.

This course qualifies for Economics credit for graduation; it will also satisfy UC A-G entrance requirements.

Marcene Newman

This two-term course is designed for students who will be pursuing a career in the health care field. The course will focus on the concept and principles of the structure, function and systems of the human body in relationship to growth and development.

The course will cover:

1) career opportunities in health care as well as the roles and responsibilities of health care team members
2) the law and professional ethics of the health care field
3) understanding the patient as a person
4) the use of fundamental patient care equipment
5) medical terminology and vital signs
6) the importance of nutrition and exercise

HEALTH CAREERS ADV.

(Spring)

This two-term advanced course is intended for students in grade 12 who will be pursuing a career in the health care field that requires postsecondary education. The course will provide students with opportunities to obtain entry-level job skills while training in an actual health care setting.

SPORTS MEDICINE

(Spring)

Learn anatomy and physiology as it relates to sports injury; analyze injuries and design rehabilitation plans; earn First Aid and CPR certification; includes on-the-job training experiences averaging five hours per week.

Note: Students must also enroll in community classroom on-the-job training companion course.

Sports Medicine Community Classroom, a required component of the Sports Medicine program, provides students with practical hands-on training experiences. Students will gain specific on-the-job training (OJT) experiences with one or more of the following local sports medicine related professionals: physical therapist, chiropractor, athletic trainer, physical education instructor, and recreation facility manager/trainer. Each student is required to attend and participate a minimum of five hours per week in this OJT component.
