Some of my Best Friends are Books
Guiding Gifted Readers from Preschool to High School

Judith Wynn Halsted
Ohio Psychology Press, 1994, 430 pages

If you’ve ever wondered what books your gifted child could or should be reading, look no further. "Some of my Best Friends are Books" is meant for you.

It’s all here, from preschool to high school, fiction and non-fiction. The author covers both the emotional and intellectual development of your child, telling you what books contribute to the growth of in your child. It goes without saying that you want your child to succeed, and reading is an important part of that process. The author’s selections are based on books that teach as well as entertain, but do not preach. They are designed to stimulate thought without being in the form of a lecture.

So, if you’re looking for something for your child to read once he or she has read Harry Potter, "Narnia", or "Eragon", this guide has done the research for you, including Sci-Fi and fantasy. Hundreds of books are listed and divided by age group. There is even a discussion on biblio-therapy, or addressing issues children face through reading relevant books. The books stated purpose is “a guide for parents, teachers, librarians, and counselors”, and it succeeds very well in providing the guidance that is needed for your fast growing child’s development.
