You Know Your Child is Gifted When…
A Beginner’s Guide to Life on the Bright Side

Judy Galbraith, M.A. Free Spirit Publishing, 2000, 120 pages

If you don’t have time to read a long book on being gifted, then read a short one--this one. This book is only 120 pages long and measures a mere 6 inches square. It’s the perfect size to carry around when you have to wait at the dentist’s office or car wash.

Despite its compact size, it’s packed with everything you need to know to begin to understand those nagging questions you have about what to do with Miss or Mr. Smarty Pants, your precocious child. If the length and size of the book isn’t enough to induce you to pick up this book, it’s also filled with illustrations and examples of what gifted kids say and do.

Here’s a sneak preview of characteristics that are found to explain giftedness

  • Advanced intellectual ability

  • Verbal Proficiency

  • Curiosity Creativity

  • High Energy

  • Focus, Passion, Intensity

  • Logical Thinking

  • Sensitivity

  • Sense of Humor

Your son or daughter may not have them all, but I bet he or she has at least one that is clearly beyond his peers.

So, come on! If I can read half this book waiting for my daughter’s orthodontist to readjust the bands on her teeth, so can you.

David L. Jones, GATE parent
