What is the Talent Search?
The Johns Hopkins University Talent Search identifies,
assesses, and recognizes students with exceptional mathematical and/or verbal
reasoning abilities. Students scoring at or above the 97th percentile on
a nationally-normed standardized test may apply to participate in the Talent
Search. Students scoring in the top three percentiles are "hitting
the ceiling" of their regular tests.
The Talent Search gives students the opportunity to take a
test designed for older students, one with a higher ceiling. This
testing will reveal more about their academic abilities and will allow them to
compare their results with those of other highly able students. They
will also learn about educational options and opportunities for students with
similar abilities, and they will receive recognition for their outstanding
achievements.
Why Participate in the Talent Search?
Participation will:
- Help families better understand the extent of a child's
verbal and mathematical talents
- Give students experience in above-level testing (5-6)
-
Introduce an important test, the SAT, to young students in a
"low stakes" environment (7-8th)
- Earn top-scoring participants invitations to Awards
Ceremonies: Grades 5-6 and 7-8 held in each state
- Enable qualifying students to take CTY summer courses
on college campuses throughout the U.S. or CTY distance education courses
(fees associated); receive priority in the competitive CTY programs course
assignment process, and remain qualified for courses through high school.
