Guy R. Walker—who represents Trustee Area 4—is a resident of the Santa Ynez Valley since 1990, deeply committed to education and community service. He is a graduate of Dunn School in Los Olivos, CA, and earned a BA in Economics/Political Science/Black Studies from UC Santa Barbara. Since 2004, he has been the founder and president of Wealth Management Strategies Insurance & Financial Solutions, providing financial advisory services to individuals and businesses.
Guy’s dedication to public education began in 1992 when he was elected to the College School District Board, representing K-8 students in Santa Ynez. He served for 10 years and continues to volunteer in various roles, including as chair of the Prop 39 oversight committee. His wife, Molly Carrillo-Walker, has extended their family’s tradition of service by serving continuously on the College School District Board since 2006. Together, they raised two children, Cianna and Gary, both of whom attended local public schools, with Cianna ultimately graduating from Dunn School.
Beyond his involvement in local schools, Guy has served on numerous nonprofit boards throughout Santa Barbara County, including the SYV Cottage Hospital Foundation Board, CommUnify of Santa Barbara Board, and the Endowment for Youth Community, where he served as past president. His leadership at Allan Hancock College was pivotal as the inaugural chair of the Allan Hancock Foundation Capital Campaign, which helped launch The Hancock Promise program, offering two years of free tuition to local high school graduates. He currently [2023-2025] serves as Chair of the Dunn School Board of Trustees.
Guy shared that his belief in “Community Wealth”—a philosophy of strengthening communities through service, engagement, and shared prosperity—guides his vision and intentions as a newly elected member of the Santa Barbara County Board of Education. He looks forward to applying his extensive experience in education, nonprofit leadership, and financial stewardship to support students, educators, and schools across the county.
