Spelling Bee

Yes. In order for students to participate in the Spelling Bee, the registration fees need to be paid in advance. The cost is as follows:

• $12 per student (non-contracting/private schools)
• $7 per student (contracting schools/districts)

Yes.  There will be seating inside the auditorium and each student may have one adult guest sit inside the auditorium during the Bee. If the student has more than one adult with them, the remaining adults may wait outside. As students spell out, they will remain seated and will be excused in groups, intermittently, throughout the Bee.  Students may leave with their adult chaperone/s after they are excused.

Yes. One adult chaperone per student will be allowed to sit in a seating area designated for chaperones inside the auditorium.  Students who have spelled out will be released intermittently in groups as the Bee progresses. If more than one adult is with a student we ask that the remaining adults wait outside.

No. All children must be registered to participate in the SBCEO Spelling Bee through their sponsor school. Please contact your child’s school for specific qualifying information at that site. 

All children can bring a light snack and water to the competition. There will be a scheduled break.

Elementary and Junior High First-Place Winners will receive a personal trophy on the day of the Bee and their names will be added to the perpetual trophy delivered to the school site. Parents will receive information about the State Spelling Bee that takes place April 27, 2024 in San Joaquin, CA. Students may also receive a monetary award from outside donors to help with the cost of attending the State Spelling Bee. This is based on the funds outside donors are able to provide and can vary from year to year.

First and Second Runner Up winners will also receive individual trophies.

Yes. Students need a signed photo release form for this event (unless the caregiver requests otherwise). The form may be downloaded here and submitted before the event or at check in the day of.
