Happy Memorial Day weekend.  We hope you will have the opportunity to get outside and enjoy some time with those you love.

Our May KIT is available online at the Intranet.  You’ll find features of the great work occurring throughout our organization, pictures of the two newest members of the SBCEO family, our April survey results, and fun Zoom meeting highlights.  If you have not logged in to the intranet previously, you can find the instructions here.

The much-loved I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival, which benefits the Children’s Creative Project, is happening this weekend through an online festival experience! Festival artists will use chalk pastels to transform their pavement canvases into elaborate and vibrant compositions in their driveways. Join the fun and view the daily evolution of the street paintings on the festival websiteInstagram, and Facebook. Follow the hashtags #imadonnari, #iMadOnline2020, #ChildrensCreativeProject, and #ChalkOn2020.

“Chalk for Kids” invites children to create drawings on their driveways and share their colorful work on Instagram using #ChalkOn2020. Free chalk will be distributed on Saturday, May 23, between 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the drive-through parking lot at the corner of State and Micheltorena streets in Santa Barbara.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our employee appreciation event which was scheduled for next week.   The Santa Barbara County Board of Trustees celebrated the wonderful contribution and impactful work of you, our employees, with a resolution at the May Board meeting.

Our Cabinet team is working with districts and state and local agencies on what reopening of schools may be for the 2020-2021 school year.  This is critical work with significant impacts for our communities.  We are also working on plans for what the reopening of our three main office campuses entails.  We will look forward to providing more information to you in June.

Finally, the May 5th employee update addressed the process for leave usage and noted that requests to carryover off-contract/vacation/comp time for classified and management staff are due by June 1.  You can find the forms on InformedK12 for both Classified and Management.

Be well and stay safe.
